10 reasons to be TWU
The TWU is an active union campaigning on issues that matter to you, your family and your community – Superannuation, Medicare, workplace safety, minimum wage and a range of other issues
Chapter 6 legislation provides NSW owner drivers and extensive list of protections not found anywhere else in Australia. The TWU is the only union able to represent owner drivers
Transport is the most dangerous industry in Australia. TWU members have access to in-house training, allowing members to build safer and stronger workplaces. TWU agreements always make safety a top priority
As a member you have a voice in the issues that matter – in your yard, in the community and in the halls of power
The TWU has an experienced in-house legal team together with access to a leading law firm to represent you and your workmates in unfair dismissals, underpayment claims or to negotiate workplace agreements
Employers and the Government have never simply handed out improved working conditions or entitlements. Benefits like weekends, overtime, sick leave, holidays, pensions, rostered days off, redundancy agreements and ending child labour have all been fought for and won by union members
Union members in the transport industry earn on average, $160 more per week than non-union members – that’s $8,320 per year!
As a TWU member you have the security of knowing your workmates have your back. Workers on union sites are three times less likely to be dismissed than on a non-union site
Unionised workplaces are safer because people aren’t scared to speak up on safety issues. International studies show that unionised workplaces have an injury rate 24% lower than in non-unionised workplaces
By joining the TWU, you are sending a message that you are willing to stand with your workmates to secure fair wages and conditions, job security, respect and safety at work.
